New Delhi: Police have arrested two men accused of drugging and robbing passengers during inter-state bus journeys. The suspects allegedly offered sedative-laced food and drinks to unsuspecting travellers before stealing their belongings. Officers recovered 16 high-end mobile phones, jewellery, several debit and credit cards and Rs 10 lakh withdrawn using stolen cards. The accused — Adil Ali (25) of Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, and Alok Mishra (23) of Loni, Ghaziabad — were nabbed by a team from the Patparganj Industrial Area police station following technical surveillance and CCTV analysis. According to police, the duo primarily operated at the Anand Vihar and Kaushambi bus terminals, targeting late-night passengers heading to Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Their arrest came after a passenger lodged a complaint that he was offered water during a Moradabad-bound bus journey and later regained consciousness in a hospital, only to discover his belongings missing. CCTV footage from an ATM—from where Rs 40,000 was withdrawn using his stolen card — helped police identify and track down the suspects. “During interrogation, the accused admitted to mixing sedatives into biscuits and water before offering them to passengers. Once the victims lost consciousness, they would steal their phones, jewellery and wallets, and later use OTPs to reset UPI and debit card PINs,” said DCP (East) Abhishek Dhania.
