A delegation from the Old Students’ Association (OSA) of Hindu College, University of Delhi, led by President Ravi Burman, met the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Dr Harini Amarasuriya, on 17 October 2025, during her visit to India. Dr Amarasuriya, an alumna of Hindu College, completed her B.A. (Hons.) in Sociology between 1991 and 1994 under the ICCR Scholarship Programme of the Government of India. She is the first head of state from the 125-year-old college, which has produced many prominent figures in public life. During the meeting, the OSA delegation presented Dr Amarasuriya with a Special Distinguished Alumni Award in recognition of her public service and contributions to social and political life. Mr Burman described the occasion as a proud milestone for the college. The delegation also informed the Prime Minister about OSA’s efforts to strengthen alumni engagement and student support. Dr Amarasuriya expressed her appreciation for the association’s work and noted Hindu College’s achievement in securing the top position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) College Rankings 2025. She acknowledged the OSA’s contribution to this success. She invited OSA members to visit Sri Lanka and offered support for future collaborations between alumni bodies of both countries. The Prime Minister also recalled her student days at Hindu College and said she was pleased to see the institution’s growth. The meeting ended on a warm note, reaffirming the strong bond between the college and its global alumni network.
