Flood-like situation looms in Delhi as Yamuna river crosses warning mark at 204.88m; evacuation likely at 206m, alert issued to agencies
The Yamuna River’s water level in Delhi has breached the warning mark, reaching 204.88 metres at the Old Railway Bridge. Authorities have issued an alert as a precaution. The rise is attributed to increased water discharge from Haryana’s Hathnikund barrage, peaking at 61,000 cusecs.

NEW DELHI: The water level of the Yamuna river in the capital crossed the warning mark on Thursday, touching 204.88 metres at the Old Railway Bridge, prompting authorities to issue an alert to all concerned agencies.According to officials, the water level at the Old Railway Bridge — a key monitoring point — stood at 204.88 metres at 8 am, above the warning threshold of 204.50 metres. The danger mark is 205.30 metres, while evacuation is initiated once the river reaches 206 metres.Officials said precautionary measures are being put in place to prepare for any potential flood-like situation.

“The increase in the water level is mostly due to a large volume of water being released from the Hathnikund barrage every hour,” an official from the central flood control room said.
