Delhi Police arrests Hashim Baba gang member, recovers illegal arms

New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested a member of the Hashim Baba gang, recovering two sophisticated Beretta pistols and 28 live cartridges from his possession.The accused, identified as Kapil, alias Ghoda, was found to be a close aide of gangster Yogesh Bhati, who is currently lodged in Rohini Jail.According to police, they received a tip-off regarding the movement of a gangster involved in illegal arms trafficking from Etah in Uttar Pradesh. Based on the tip-off, a team was formed, and a trap was laid near Gopalpur on the Outer Ring Road. The accused was apprehended, and two sophisticated Beretta pistols, one country-made pistol, and 28 live cartridges were recovered from his possession. A case was registered under the Arms Act at the Crime Branch police station.DCP (Crime) Aditya Gautam said, “During interrogation, the accused claimed that he was acting on Bhati’s instructions when he procured the seized arms from a person identified as Golu, who is based near Ashram Chowk. It was also revealed that Golu hails from Etah and is part of a larger arms trafficking network operating across state lines and coordinated from within jail premises.”Police said that the arrested gangster has a history of criminal involvement and is previously named in four cases of robbery. While one of the cases is from 2018 and registered at the DBG Road police station, another one is from 2021 and registered at the Moti Nagar police station. He has two more robbery cases against him at the Patel Nagar police station, one from 2022 and another from 2023.
